yesterday we went to a list of galleries for class. i took a few pics, saw some interesting things. we saw a jean-michel basquiat painting being sold for nine million dollars. this flower garden installation wasn't on our list of galleries, but we saw it from the outside and couldn't resist going in.
this stamp was being sold in a gallery store for 50$? It says, "I know in the past I've found it difficult to stay these words, but I LOVE YOU."
this photo installation. the deer is a sculpture, the rest is plastic film and wooden frame. this wasn't on our list of galleries to see, either.
this wasn't on our list, either, haha, but it's an installation of crushed eggshells and cassette film. some of the eggs had words on them, like "love today."
aaaand this wasn't on our list either. but it was a weird sculpture made of feathers and taxidermied birds and bugs and butterflies. and that's my favorite kind of bird. dead bird, but yeah. :)

i liked this pulley system door in one of galleries we were actually supposed to see. wasn't too into the actual show though.
googly eyed movie posters!
and street performers doing acrobats on the subway. they kind of reminded me of 1900s era performers with the tricks they were doing.

we saw kanye west's girlfriend, amber rose walking around chelsea too. she's shorter than i thought. that's probably because she was wearing sneakers and sweats. and an insane amount of make up. yeah. no kanye in sight, thankfully. i'm not a fan.

last night we went to some chelsea gallery openings.
we didn't really see anything that show stopping.
these mircea suciu paintings were kind of interesting.
a dan flavin, meh.
i also met a few local artists at the bar down the street, it was really interesting talking to them. they had some really interesting views on whether or not it was worth it to go to grad school, etc. the picture below shows one of the artist's work. it has walkie talkies attached to it that were picking up police scanners and such.
